The General Sports Association of Austria , or ASVÖ for short , is one of the three umbrella sports associations in Austria .
The ASVÖ was founded in 1949 and currently (as of 2011) looks after around 5300 clubs and a total of 7,700 sections. On January 1, 2011, it had 1,013,000 members. Its seat is in the 13th district of Hietzing in Vienna . Unlike the other two umbrella organizations in Austria, the ASVÖ cannot be assigned to any political grouping; it sees itself as an independent and non-partisan pool for sports clubs. In total, the ASVÖ looks after more than 120 sports .
The ASVÖ is divided into nine national organizations corresponding to the Austrian federal states . On the other hand, there are sections at both federal and state level, each of which is headed by a specialist.
The soccer section organizes a national championship in which the national organizations select teams to determine a national winner in a tournament.
