A Talent for Loving is a western comedy from 1969 that has not yet been shown in the German-speaking world and was based on the story of the same name by Richard Condon . In the film, which has received different ratings from the critics, Richard Widmark plays the lead role, directed by Richard Quine .
action
Texas and northern Mexico, around 1865: Former major and professional card player Major William Patten is facing financial ruin. In order to stay afloat, he marries a rich Mexican lady, whose family, however, was cursed three hundred years ago. An Aztec priest, who had to cut off his own hand, condemns the Spanish conquistadors who harassed him, and all of their descendants, to insatiable lust for love after they once tasted physical love - even if it was just a kiss.
So Patten not only competes with the rich landowner of the area and a Mexican bandit for the favor of the ladies, but also has to defend himself against the increasingly demanding wishes of femininity.
criticism
Hal Erickson called the comedy "restless but edible".
Remarks
The work was later re-released as Gun Crazy . Allegedly, the film was planned for The Beatles back in 1966 .
