John Bluthal

John Bluthal (* 12. August 1929 as Isaac Bluthal in Jezierzany , Galicia ; † 15. November 2018 in New South Wales , Australia) was a British actor and voice actor .

Life

Bluthal came from a Jewish family in Galicia, which at the time belonged to Poland, but is now on the territory of the Ukraine . In 1938 his family emigrated to Australia . Bluthal went to school there and then studied drama at Melbourne University . He played at the local repertoire theater and spoke for the radio, a. a. at The Shell Hour and Gaslight Music Hall . A first collaboration with Spike Milligan took place in 1958 on television; numerous collaborations should follow in the coming years.

From 1959 Bluthal lived in England; at the BBC that same year he starred in Citizen James , later in the long-running series Never Mind the Quality, Feel the Width . He was the Commander in the Fireball XL5 puppet series and appeared on stage in the musical Oliver! on. His first movie was in 1963. Even the little ones want to go up . Bloodhal then received numerous roles in English-language productions, including from Australia, including the Beatles film Hi-Hi-Hilfe! . The sitcom Melting Pot , in which Bluthal appeared again alongside Spike Milligan, was retired in 1975 after just one episode.

He then worked primarily on television series and films, only occasionally making appearances in movies. In 1997 he was seen in The Fifth Element as a professor doing research in Egypt. He also played other supporting roles in An Italian Wedding (2004) and Hail, Caesar! (2016). His work as a film and television actor includes more than 120 productions.

He also played repeatedly at the National Theater London .
