action

Colin is a young teacher who also owns a guest house in London. The young man does not get along with women, he simply cannot access them. His tenant Tolen, on the other hand, is a kind of heartthrob. Tolen even organizes a meeting of all of his girlfriends at the Royal Albert Hall . Another tenant, actor Tom, has a calming influence on both men.

Colin had the idea to buy a brass bed to impress the women. He and Tom go to a junkyard to look for one. While they roll the found bed home through the streets, they meet the innocent Nancy Jones. Nancy comes from the province and is looking for a YWCA, the YMCA for women (German: CVJM = Christian Association of Young People, in the film dubbing Christian Association of Young Girls). The men offer to help, but in the end it is Nancy who helps them push the bed. However, they cause traffic accidents and hysterical fits of passers-by.

In the pension, Tolen wants to show Colin his flirting technique. Colin is supposed to approach Nancy when she starts to rave about it. But Colin misses his chance, so that Nancy rushes off with Tolen on a motorcycle. Colin and Tom set out to chase them down. In a park they meet a hysterical Nancy. She accuses Tolen of rape, which Tolen denies. Colin takes care of Nancy and they both quickly become friends.

Reviews

“Turbulent, fast-paced parody of manhood madness, the performance principle and city bustle, at the same time a loving portrait of the 'Swinging London' of the 60s. Richard Lester's film debut, which carefree combines style elements from pop culture, the French nouvelle vague and American slapstick into a successful avant-garde comedy. "

"With its crazy mix of styles - from slapstick to serious avant-garde staging - this dazzling film is a true masterpiece!"

“This is one of the best comedies ever made in England. Because here one gag chases the next. 'Beatles' director Richard Lester created an absolutely funny and turbulent comedy about 'Swinging London' of the sixties. "

"Despite its apparently fashionable design, the film has lost none of its charm to this day: Between the two Beatles films, Lester shakes a snapshot of the 1960s youth self-image out of his sleeve."
