The river Aa of Weerijs (name in this form - "Aa or Werijs" - in common) rises in the Belgian province of Antwerp , where it is created by the union of the large Aa from Wuustwezel and the small Aa from Brecht . From here it flows north and after a few kilometers south of Zundert it passes the Belgian- Dutch border. In the North Brabant city of Breda it flows into the Bovenmark . The city of Breda owes its name to this confluence: Brede Aa means something like broad Aa . From here the water of the Aa of Weerijs and the Bovenmark flows under the name Mark and later Dintel to the Volkerak , from where it reaches the Oosterschelde and thus the North Sea .

Large parts of the course of the Aa of Weerijs are now canalised, but there are plans to restore the river bed to its natural state .
