The Aach is a river in the Swiss canton of Thurgau . It is created by the confluence of the Feilebach and Hegibach rivers in the Arbon district of Stachen and flows into Lake Constance after a 2-kilometer run . It drains an area of around 33 square kilometers and, together with its longest source stream, the Hegibach, is 10 kilometers long. The section from the confluence of the source streams to the confluence with the Arboner Weiher is also called Fallentürlibach .
geography
course
The Aach arises in the area of the formerly independent Arbon district of Stachen and runs through a number of meanders in the Arbon urban area . Shortly before the river flows into Lake Constance, it is dammed by means of sluices in order to regulate the inflow to the lake. This led to the creation of a pond called Arboner Weiher, which is an attraction in Arbon, especially in winter when people ice-skate on it . Swans also breed on the bank of the pond .
Tributaries
- Feilebach ( left source stream ), 9.0 km
- Hegibach ( right source stream ), 11.2 km
- Salbach ( right ), 7.8 km
pollution
Due to the increasing pollution of the river, various fish species have disappeared in the last few decades, including the brown trout . Rubbish repeatedly ends up in the river, as well as faeces from the nearby housing estates and manure from agriculture. Lately attempts have been made to renaturate , and school classes in the city regularly clean the Aach in project weeks.
Others
The connecting road Arbon-Landquart ( belonging to the cantonal road to Berg ) leads over the Aach. The bridge over the river, built in 1910, was renovated for the first time in April 2006 - after more than 90 years.
