Aage Chemnitz

Aage Chemnitz (born June 26, 1927 in Alluitsoq ; † May 17, 2006 ) was a Greenlandic merchant .

Life

Aage Chemnitz was the son of pastor Karl Johan Pavia Chemnitz (1884-1965) and his wife Margrethe Kristine Rosa Julie Høegh (1897-1978). Through his father he was a grandson of Jens Chemnitz and a nephew of Jørgen Chemnitz and through his mother a nephew of John Høegh , Pavia Høegh and Frederik Høegh . His sister was Gudrun Chemnitz (1928–2004). He married Oline Kleist (1927–?) On December 27, 1948.

Aage graduated from Sorø Akademi in Denmark in 1945 and became a volunteer in the service of Grønlands Styrelse . He began a trading career at Den Kongelige Grønlandske Handel (KGH) and in 1947 became a trading assistant in Qaqortoq . In 1950 he moved to Sisimiut , 1954 to Maniitsoq and 1960 to Nanortalik . In 1962 he was appointed head of trade in Nanortalik. In 1965 he moved to Tasiilaq , where he became head of trade in 1966. In 1973 he became a trade inspector in Nuuk . In 1981 he was appointed the last director of the KGH before it was dissolved in 1985 and Aage Chemnitz retired.

On June 20, 2001 he received the Nersornaat in gold. He was also a knight of the Dannebrog Order . He died in 2006 at the age of 78.
