Aarne Eemili Reini (born August 6, 1906 in Vaasa , † February 23, 1974 ) was a Finnish wrestler .

Career

Aarne Eemili Reini grew up in the Finnish town of Vaasa, attended school there and began wrestling in the sports club "Vaasanen Kiisto", a club that belonged to the workers' sports association TUL. Aarne did an apprenticeship as a locksmith and soon competed for his club. The highlight of his early career was winning the silver medal at the 1931 Workers' Olympics in Vienna . In 1932 he joined the association "Voima-Veikot" Vaasa (VVV), a club that belonged to the Finnish Wrestling Association, which was a member of the World Wrestling Association. He was also able to start at the Olympic Games in 1932 and 1936 in Los Angeles and Berlin . Aarne Reini wrestled exclusively in the Greco-Roman style and was European lightweight champion in 1933 and 1934. At the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin he won the silver medal in the featherweight (61 kg body weight) in which he had to train because he had lost to Lauri Koskela at the Finnish lightweight championships in 1936 . Lauri Koskela, who became Olympic lightweight champion in 1936, was also his main competitor in Finland for the next few years . Aarne Reini, meanwhile a member of "Kisa-Veikot" Helsinki , was able to defeat him at the Finnish championships in 1935, 1937 and 1938. Nevertheless, Lauri Koskela was used at the European Championships in those years by the Finnish association. Aarne Reini then returned to the workers' sports association TUL and was its chairman from 1946 to 1949.
