Abadim is a town and municipality in northern Portugal .

history

The place name indicates an existence since the Arab rule from the 8th century.

It was already the seat of its own administrative district when King D. Afonso III. Abadim gave to the knight Rui Viegas .

On October 12, 1514 Abadim received city rights by King D. Manuel I .

In the course of the administrative reforms after the liberal civil war , the Abadim district was dissolved in 1836. Since then it has been a parish in the Cabeceiras de Basto district.
