Abbendorf ( Low German : Abbendbod ) is a district of the municipality Scheeßel in the district of Rotenburg (Wümme) in Lower Saxony .

Geographical location

Abbendorf belongs to the community of Scheeßel and is located on the northern edge of the Lüneburg Heath in the Elbe-Weser triangle . Abbendorf is surrounded by the approximately 2.5 km Hesedorf bei Gyhum in the west, the Hetzwege approximately 2 km away in the east, the Elsdorf approximately 5 km away in the north and northwest and the Langenhörn ( Borchel , city of Rotenburg (Wümme) ) 2 km away. in the south.

First and Second World War

Seven Abbendorf residents died or went missing during the First World War . 13 residents were killed in the Second World War .

Modern times

Abbendorf was merged with the other present-day districts of Scheeßel to form the unitary community of Scheeßel with effect from March 1, 1974 after "ratification of the territorial change agreement of December 20, 1973".

Abbendorf provides a joint local council with nine members. The local mayor is Reinhard Frick and the deputy is Hermann Hilken.
