Abdou Hamani

Abdou Hamani (born November 22, 1942 in Niamey ) is a Nigerien linguist and politician .

Life

Abdou Hamani attended the University of California, Los Angeles on a scholarship , where he obtained a bachelor's degree with English as a major in 1968 . In 1969 he graduated from the University of Leeds the title Master of Arts . Hamani worked from 1969 to 1970 as a research assistant at the Institut National de Documentation, de Recherches et d'Animation Pédagogiques (INDRAP) in Niamey. He received his PhD in 1972 from the University of Paris VII with a thesis on a new model for English teaching in Niger.

From 1974 he worked at Niamey University , initially as an assistant professor . Hamani specialized in the languages ​​of Niger as a linguist . From 1976 to 1982 he was dean of the Faculty of Human Sciences at Niamey University . He completed his habilitation in 1982 at the University of Paris VII with a work on the grammar of Zarma . In the same year, Abdou Hamani succeeded Abdou Moumouni as rector of Niamey University. In this position, Hamidou Arouna Sidikou replaced him in 1988 . Hamani was Minister for Communications, Culture, Youth and Sport and Government Spokesman in Prime Minister Souley Abdoulaye's government from 1994 to 1995 . He then returned to Niamey University as a professor of linguistics.

Abdou Hamani is married and has one child.
