Hamidou Arouna Sidikou

Hamidou Arouna Sidikou (born March 4, 1946 in Niamey ; † January 12, 2015 ; also Hamidou Harouna Sidikou ) was a Nigerien geographer and politician .

Life

Hamidou Arouna Sidikou went to the École Nord and the Collège d'Enseignement Général in Niamey to school, followed by a visit to the normal school in Zinder , which he graduated in 1967 with the Baccalauréat . He studied geography at the University of Abidjan from 1967 until his maîtrise in 1971 . He worked for a short time as a history and geography teacher at the Lycée National de Niamey. In 1973 he received his PhD in geography from the University of Rouen .

Arouna Sidikou worked from 1973 to 1974 as the school director of the Lycée Amadou Kouran Daga in Zinder. From 1974 he worked at the University of Niamey , where he rose to become the first Nigerian university professor of geography. He completed his habilitation in 1981 at the University of Rouen and from 1981 to 1985 headed the Research Institute for Human Sciences (IRSH) at the University of Niamey. From 1986 to 1988 he was permanent secretary of the Committee for the Development of a Code for Rural Areas.

Hamidou Arouna Sidikou was appointed rector of Niamey University in 1988 as the successor to Abdou Hamani . In 1990, Alhassane Yénikoye succeeded him in this function . President Ibrahim Baré Maïnassara brought him into the government of Prime Minister Boukary Adji in 1996 as Minister for Higher Education and Research . Arouna Sidikou left the government in 1997 and Sanoussi Jackou took over . He then worked in a leading position for the International Organization of the Francophonie until 2002 .

Hamidou Arouna Sidikou was married to the biologist Ramatou Sidikou and had four children.
