The Abe ( Japanese 安 倍 川 , Abe-kawa ) is a river in Shizuoka Prefecture in Japan .
It is 53.3 km long and has a catchment area of 567 km². The river has its origin at Suruga in the Akaishi Mountains and flows into Suruga Bay at Shizuoka . Known for its clear water, it is an important source of water for Shizuoka City.
The Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu , who was once based in Shizuoka, had extensive construction work carried out, which gave the river its current course.
Abekawamochi ( 安 倍 川 餅 ), mochi (rice cake) dusted with kinako (soy flour), was a traditional cake that was served in teahouses by the river.
