history

The Abegweit was built under construction number 144 at Marine Industries Ltd. in Sorel-Tracy and was launched on September 21, 1946. After the takeover by the Canadian National Railways in June 1947, the ship began ferry operations between Cape Tormentine and Borden .

In 1981, the Abegweit was named Abby , as a new ferry called Abegweit was put into service the following year , which should replace it in service. In October 1982 the ship completed its last crossing and was laid up in Picton .

In March 1983, the Abby was sold to the Columbia Yacht Club in Chicago, where it arrived in April of that year and has since served as a floating clubhouse in the marina. After the second Abegweit was taken out of service , the ship was given its original name back in June 1997.
