history

The Abegweit was built under hull number 1136 in the Saint John Shipbuilding & Drydock Company in Saint John and was launched on February 20, 1982. After it was delivered to Canadian National Railways, the ferry was used on the route from Prince Edward Island to Cape Tormentine in October 1982 . It replaced a ferry of the same name on this route , which was then retired.

On December 19, 1982, the Abegweit failed for a short time after losing a propeller blade during a crossing. Otherwise, the ferry's service life was without major incidents. In June 1997 the ship was decommissioned and the ferry service to Cape Tormentine stopped after the opening of the Confederation Bridge . The Abegweit lay the following two years in North Sydney before they sold in May 1999. Accrued investment and Accrued Mariner has been renamed.

On June 9, 1999, the Accrued Mariner was towed to Freeport, Texas, where it was to be converted into a floating casino. However, these plans were not published and the ship was re- launched . On New Year's Day 2004, the former Abegweit was sold for scrapping in Alang , India , where it arrived on May 9, 2004 under the transfer name Mariner .
