Maud and her brother Brilburn want to gouge the rich Cheston. Cheston buys an expensive pearl necklace for her, which he shows around at his club in the evening. To protect the chain from thieves, he locks it in a safe in the evening. When the player Prince tries to steal them, Cheston surprises him, who is then strangled by Prince. When Brilburn, who has the same idea and is late, finds the body and is also surprised, he is the main suspect. However, Detective Ward uses tobacco crumbs to find the real culprit.
