The expulsion. The Power of the Second Woman is a German film drama from 1923 based on the play of the same name by Carl Hauptmann from 1905.

The Steyer family, grandfather and grandmother Steyer, their son, his second wife Ludmilla and granddaughter Aenne from Steyer's first marriage, live and work high up in the Giant Mountains. You lead a humble life. Ludmilla, however, only married the son for the money, actually she is fond of the hunter Lauer, with whom she has an affair, even after her wedding to Steyer. When Steyer found out about this and Lauer appeared in front of the hut, Steyer confronted his wife. She denies everything and claims that Lauer is coming to Aenne, Steyer's daughter from her first marriage. In the evening Ludmilla and Steyer go dancing. She wants to prove how much she loves her husband. When Steyer is drunk, he tries to get Lauer and Aenne engaged and sells his hut. When he notices his mistakes, it is too late: the house has been sold, Ludmilla has disappeared with Lauer and when he returns to the hut, his parents are just moving out. Steyer lost everything in one night.

The film was produced by Decla-Bioscop AG. The shooting took place in February 1923 in the Giant Mountains (on the Schlingel- and Hampel-Baude). The unit manager was Eduard Kubat , the buildings were created by Erich Czerwonski and Rochus Gliese . The film was 1,557 meters long. The German premiere was on September 23, 1923 in Berlin's Ufa-Theater on Kurfürstendamm. The film is considered lost.
