history

The evening grammar school in Hanover was founded in 1928 and is one of the oldest of its kind in Germany.

The city of Hanover can claim to have founded the first evening grammar school in northern Germany and, consequently, also in later Lower Saxony. As early as September 1927, a Hanover daily newspaper announced the start of an evening school course, and operations could begin after the Easter break. No more documents have been received about the foundation's initiative and the more detailed accompanying circumstances. At around the same time evening grammar schools were established in Duisburg, Essen, Gelsenkirchen, Halle, Kassel, Cologne and a little later in Osnabrück.

Since 2001 the evening grammar school has been housed in one building together with the Hanover College , where 240 pupils are taught during the day (“Hanover grammar schools for adults”).
