Abhorrence was a Brazilian brutal death metal band from São José do Rio Preto , founded in 1997 and disbanded around 2008.

history

The band was founded in 1997, whereby the brothers Fernando (drums) and Rangel Arroyo (electric guitar, vocals) had been musically active together since 1995. It took them almost the entire year to complete the line-up with bassist Kleber Varnier. In November of that year the band recorded the demo Ascension in Da Tribo Studio , whereby Varnier was only able to contribute because of his late arrival, song title and small elaboration ideas. The demo consists of three songs and had a circulation of approx. 1,200 pieces. In 1998 a compact cassette of this was sent to Wild Rags Records by Varnier, on which it was re-released as a CD with an edition of around 1,400 copies. In 1999 Tom Hailey from Relapse Records approached the band and told them about a planned new Brazilian split release. For this purpose, the band recorded three more songs for the demo Triumph in Blasphemy in November . This was also sent to Gene Palubiki of Evil Vengeance Records , whereby the band reached a recording contract with this label. In September 2000 the group recorded their debut album under the direction of Tchelo Martins in the Da Tribo Studio before it was mastered by Erik Rutan . The album was released in the same year under the name Evoking the Abomination by Evil Vengeance Records in the USA , while it was licensed for Europe by Listenable Records . The split release appeared in the same year under the name Brazilian Assault , which in addition to Abhorrence also Mental Horror , Nephasth and Ophiolatry can be heard. After the album was released, bassist Kleber Varnier was replaced by Marcello Marzari. In 2005 Malignant Art Distribuicao released the split release Impaling the Christian Race with Ophiolatry, which was followed by another with Impiety in 2008 on Agonia Records under the name Two Barbarians - A Vulgar Abomination of Satan's Intolerant Warlords . Then the band broke up.

style

According to Frank Stöver from voicesfromthedarkside.de , the band plays fast, brutal and blasphemous death metal in the style of Krisiun . In an interview with him, Arroyo stated that the members were influenced by bands like Deicide , Morbid Angel , Krisiun and Motörhead . Joel McIver also assigned the band to Death Metal in his book Extreme Metal II , using the most important elements of South American Extreme Metal : Intense riffs and poor production. Nephil from Metal.de classified Evoking the Abomination as Brutal Death Metal and compared the music with that of Krisiun, but Abhorrence went faster, more brutal and harder. Due to the production, the riffs are less defined. Overall, the music is chaotic, which is caused by blast beats , "screeching" guitars, deep growling and typical death metal lyrics. Sebastiaan from lordsofmetal.nl also reviewed the album and summarized the music as blasphemous, very fast death metal. The playing of the guitar and the drums are particularly striking; the aggressive growls reminded him of Glen Benton .
