Abraham Louis Girardet (born May 27, 1772 in Le Locle , † October 31, 1821 in Les Planchettes ) was a Swiss etcher and miniature painter.

Abraham Louis Girardet was born the son of the bookseller and publisher Samuel Girardet (1730–1807) and Marie-Anne Bourquin. He was a brother of Abraham Girardet , Alexandre Girardet, and Charles-Samuel Girardet .

He was trained in painting, drawing and printmaking from his brothers Abraham and Alexandre. He signed his etchings with "Ab-Ls G." or "ALG" to distinguish them from the works of his brothers. Girardet was active in Switzerland, France , the Netherlands and Germany .

From 1789 he created views, portraits (especially of members of the French National Assembly ) and satirical drawings. In addition, he was also active as a painter, in particular as a miniature painter, as well as a manufacturer of hand stamps for sealing and engraved tableware.

In 1804 he showed the first symptoms of mental illness. He spent the last years of his life in a sanatorium.

Thanks to their attention to detail and the precision of their reproduction, his works retain their significance as documents of their epoch.
