Abraham Girardet

Abraham Girardet (* thirtieth November 1764 in Le Locle , Canton of Neuchâtel , † 2. January 1823 in Paris ) was a from Switzerland originating engraver and sting draftsman .

Life

Abraham Girardet was the eldest son of the publisher Samuel Girardet. In 1783 he went to Paris, where he spent the rest of his life. His siblings Abraham Louis , Alexandre , Charles and Julie also worked as engravers.

He provided a considerable number of sheets of correct drawing, among which the Transfiguration of Christ (after Raphael ), the Rape of the Sabine Women (after Nicolas Poussin ), the Triumph of Titus and Vespasia n (after Giulio Romano ), the Dead Savior (after Andrea del Sarto ) are to be highlighted as the best.

He was honored at the Paris Salon of 1806 and 1808. In the last years of his life, Girardet was a drawing teacher at the Manufacture des Gobelins in Paris.
