Abraham Wedell

Abraham Wedell (born June 4, 1844 in Posen , Province of Posen ; † September 2, 1891 in Düsseldorf , Rhine Province ) was a German rabbi .

Life

He was the youngest of four children of the orphanage inspector Manasse Moses Wedell in Posen and Miriam (Mirie) Vogelsdorff.

Wedell made his Abitur at the Royal Friedrich-Wilhelms-Gymnasium in Posen and studied there in 1863 at the Rabbi Seminary . He then studied philosophy at the University of Breslau , where he received his doctorate in 1869. phil. received his doctorate .

In 1867 he took over the post of first teacher at the Religious Instruction I of the synagogue community in Breslau . At Easter 1870 he succeeded his father as inspector of the "Israelite Orphanage Institute" in Poznan and from 1871 to 1874 at the same time he was a religion teacher at the local secondary school .

From 1875 he was rabbi of the synagogue district of Düsseldorf . In 1882 he was given leave of absence for a long time, as he was sent from Berlin , Vienna , Paris , London and New York to the Russian border and into Russia at the request of the "United Comités" to organize the emigration of Russian Jews . On May 15, 1882, they were forbidden to purchase land or to stay outside of cities, thereby depriving them of personal freedom.
