history

In 1122 Ulric, Companion of St. Norbert von Xanten , the founder of the Premonstratensian Order, established a community in Jouy-la-Grange that was called Saint-Nicolas-en-Thelle. In 1145 the landlord donated Ansculphe de Sénots in Marcheroux Land, just under five kilometers away, to which the abbey was moved a short time later. In 1147 Pope Eugene III confirmed . The Foundation. The monastery was subordinated to the Abbey of Saint-Josse de Dommartin in Tortefontaine (today in the Pas-de-Calais department ). Ansculphe de Sénots also donated the Beaumont court, where a nunnery was built.

Around 1180, Marcheroux established the Abbecourt daughter monastery (Notre-Dame d'Abbecourt; Alba Curia) in what is now the Yvelines department . Marcheroux never got rich and suffered multiple destruction and looting. In 1536 a new abbey church was consecrated. This collapsed in 1615.

In the 17th century the abbey joined a congregation that wanted to restore the order's original austerity. In 1727 it fell into the coming years . At the time of the French Revolution there were only seven monks left. In 1791 the monastery was closed and its goods were sold. In the 19th century, the abbey church, the vaults of which were destroyed, was used as a barn.
