Abuko is a town in the West African state of Gambia .

According to a calculation for the year 2013, about 8089 inhabitants live there, the result of the last published census from 1993 was 4345.

geography

Abuko lies on the south bank of the Gambia River in the Kombo-St. Mary Area and is part of the Greater Banjul Area administrative unit . On the South Bank Road , Gambia's most important trunk road, from Serekunda to Brikama , the place lies before Lamin . The largest cattle market is also held on the side of this street.

The place is namesake of the nearby national park Abuko Nature Reserve .

population

According to a survey from 1993 ( census at that time ), the largest population group is the Jola with a share of around five-tenths, followed by the Mandinka. The distribution in detail: 24.6% Mandinka , 9.8% Fula , 4.5% Wolof , 46.7% Jola , 1.1% Serahule , 2% Serer , 1.4% Aku , 4.9% Manjago , 0.8% Bambara and 4.3% other races.
