Greater Banjul Area is one of six administrative units in western Gambia .

The 88 km² administrative unit with 454,233 inhabitants (2013 calculation) holds a special position among the regions. In it the capital Banjul ( City of Banjul ) and the municipality Kanifing ( Kanifing Municipal ) are combined.
About a quarter of the Gambia's population lives in this administrative unit, which takes up less than one percent of the land area.
