Achatius von Quitzow (born August 8, 1606 in Wiedelah near Goslar; † October 3, 1653 in Braunschweig ) was a member of the Fruit Bringing Society .

Life

Quitzow was the son of Henning von Quitzow and Katharina Engel , geb. from Alvensleben. His two sisters were married to Kuno Ordomar von Bodenhausen and Levin Ludwig von Hahn , respectively . Like his brothers-in-law, Quitzow later became a member of the Fruitful Society. During his student days he became engaged to Maria Dorothea von Alvensleben , but this connection was later broken again.

On March 23, 1617 Quitzow enrolled at the University of Helmstedt and in the winter semester 1617/18 he moved to Leipzig. From August 17, 1623, Quitzow enrolled in Leiden and stayed there for two years. He then went on his Cavalier tour through France, Great Britain and Italy. On October 8, 1627, Quitzow enrolled at the University of Siena, like many cavaliers before him .

After his return in 1628 he took over the Quitzow family property, which had been administered by his guardian since the death of his father in 1608, and directed it until 1631. In December 1631 Quitzow went to war. Hans Georg von Arnim subordinates a riding company of the Electoral Saxon army to him.

At the beginning of 1634 Quitzow was stationed in Anhalt and later again from December 1634 to August 1635. Here he was accepted into the Fruit Bringing Society together with Georg Nitzschky and Seifried von Kayn . As a company name he was given the bystander and as a motto in food and medicine . In the Koethen Society Book you can find Quitzow's entry with his emblem mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris L.) and his rhyme law, with which he thanks:

So in the Arzteney as if you were to dine
At the foot of the red and white, and at the other turns crooked
Far ahead in his strength, by standing I addressed
I want to suggest that there is nothing better
Stand by his share, so that one treats good things
The next one in common, help him against
And so with beneficial fruit get their run.

In 1636 Quitzow was promoted to colonel sergeant. In 1640 he quit his job as Rittmeister and returned to Braunschweig.

Achatius von Quitzow died there on October 3, 1653 at the age of 47.
