history

Adalaj was a farming village about 8 km west of the Sabarmati River; the inhabitants of earlier times were essentially dependent on the river water. In the 15th century, a queen supposedly had the stepwell (vav) built.

Attractions

  • The main attraction of the city is the Adalaj stepwell , which was completed at the end of the 15th century .
Surroundings
  • The complex of the Trimandir Jain Temple (also Trimurti Temple ) located about 3 km northwest of the village is also of importance; the central individual temple is the Jain teacher Swami Simandhar, but the two on the side are dedicated to the Hindu gods Shiva and Vishnu .
