Adalbert Dungel
Adalbert Dungel OSB (born June 20, 1842 in Luggau , Moravia , † July 10, 1923 in Göttweig Abbey ) was abbot of Göttweig Abbey.
Alois Dungel attended high school in Znojmo . In 1861 he entered the Benedictine monastery in Göttweig, where he was given the religious name Adalbert. He was clothed on September 8, 1861, made his temporary profession on October 9, 1862 and his solemn profession on October 15, 1865 , he was ordained a priest on July 25, 1866 and celebrated his Primary on August 12 . He was a curate at the collegiate parish and temporary priest in Tulln , from 1869 to 1877 he was professor of moral theology . He was the forest master and builder of the monastery, in 1886 he was elected abbot. His motto was: Crux sacra sit mihi lux - The holy cross should be light to me . He also worked as an archaeologist, archivist and curator for art and historical monuments for the districts above the Vienna Woods and above the Manhartsberg.
From 1889 to 1921 he was Abbot Praeses of the Austrian Benedictine Congregation of the Immaculate Conception. From 1902 to 1915 he was a member of the large estates in the Lower Austrian state parliament , from 1897 to 1907 a member of the Reichsrat .
Adalbert Dungel received several awards, such as the Franz Joseph Order in 1886 or the Order of the Iron Crown II. Class in 1912 , and was an honorary citizen several times. In 1899 he received the Cappa Magna from the Holy See , which is actually only reserved for cardinals and bishops, and in 1906 the purple pileolus . He had numerous memberships in social and scientific associations, such as a corresponding member of the Austrian Geographical Society .
