Life

In 1874 he succeeded his late father in the class rule. Associated with this was a hereditary seat in the first chamber of the state estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse. From 1874 to 1879, his uncle, Edgar Graf zu Erbach-Fürstenau, and from 1882 to 1887 his uncle Hugo Graf zu Erbach-Fürstenau represented him in the state parliaments. From 1887 to 1918 he was a member of the first chamber of the state parliament of the Grand Duchy of Hesse personally (apart from the state parliament in 1893, at which he was represented by his brother Elias Graf zu Erbach-Fürstenau). From 1900 to 1908 he was Second President of the 1st Chamber of the State Parliament of the Grand Duchy of Hesse
