Ludwig Gustav Otto Hermann Arthur Elias Raimund Alfred Graf zu Erbach-Fürstenau (born April 11, 1905 in Fürstenau ; † July 30, 1988 there ) was a German politician ( CDU ) and a former member of the Hessian state parliament .

Family, education and work

Alfred Graf zu Erbach-Fürstenau comes from the noble family Erbach-Fürstenau . His father, Adalbert Graf zu Erbach-Fürstenau was the last Count of Erbach-Fürstenau, who as Standesherr member of the first chamber of the estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse was. His mother was Elisabeth Princess zu Salm-Horstmar .

Alfred zu Erbach-Fürstenau initially received private tuition and then attended the humanistic grammar school, where he graduated from high school in 1923. He then studied at the Technical University of Darmstadt and finished his studies in 1927 as an engineer. From 1927 to 1928 he worked as an engineer at Siemens & Halske in Berlin . In December 1928 he left Siemens and took over his parents' property. By resigning from his father, he was also head of the Erbach-Fürstenau house from December 9, 1928. At the same time he studied at the University of Berlin law . In 1930 he took over the management of his own property. From September 1939 to December 1947 he worked as an employed engineer in São Paulo (Brazil). From December 1947 to March 1948 he worked in Germany and from September 1949 back in Brazil as a self-employed engineer and importer. From November 1949 to April 1950 he worked for BMW in Brazil in market research. Then he lived again in Germany.

His first marriage was on September 13, 1926 in Berlin, Maria-Domina von Maltitz (1904–1997). This marriage, divorced in 1977, had three daughters:

  • Eleonore, born June 10, 1927; married van de Roemer
  • Elisabeth, born June 17, 1929; married Countess zu Erbach-Fürstenau from 1950 to Eugen Graf zu Erbach-Fürstenau (1923–1987), Alfred zu Erbach-Fürstenau's oldest cousin. Her eldest son Raimund Graf zu Erbach-Fürstenau (1951-2017) succeeded her maternal grandfather, Alfred, on July 30, 1988 as head of the Erbach-Fürstenau house and was most recently senior of the entire Erbach house.
  • Maria-Angelica, born December 17, 1941; married (divorced) Riedesel Freifrau zu Eisenbach

On September 17, 1977, Alfred zu Erbach-Fürstenau married Marie-Esther von Puttkamer (1903-1983) for the second time in Michelstadt .

politics

Alfred Graf Erbach-Fürstenau had been a member of the CDU since 1953. For his party he was from July 14, 1956 (as a replacement for Hans Steinmetz ) to November 30, 1958, a member of the Hessian state parliament in the third electoral period .

He was chairman of the forest policy committee of the Hessian forest owners association.
