Adam Świnka z Zielonej ( Latin Adam Suinca de Zelona or Adamus Porcarius ; * late 14th century, † before October 22, 1433 ) was a Polish canon and writer of Latin poems.

Life

Adam Świnka was born as the son of the castellan Adam Świnka in Mazovia . He enrolled at the University of Cracow in 1411. From 1427 to 1433 he was a canon in Łęczyca and worked there from 1427 to 1431 as a notary in the royal chancellery of Władysław II Jagiełło . In this capacity he was ambassador to Rome in 1427 and to the Holy Roman Empire in 1429 . In addition, he was in 1431 canon at the collegiate church of St. George in Gniezno , then from 1432 to 1433 canon in Gniezno and Kraków and in 1433 in Włocławek . He died before October 22, 1433.

Adam Świnka wrote only in Latin and often used an acrostic in his poems , which shows him as the author or sometimes hides a dedication of the poem, e.g. B. to the Krakow Bishop Jan Prandota .

He wrote, among other things, sequences about Saint Barbara , Adalbert of Prague , Maria and Stanislaus of Krakow and hymns about Stanislaus of Krakow.

He was also the author of two mourning poems about the deaths of Zawisza Czarny (1428) and Hedwig Jagiellonica, the daughter of Władysław II Jagiełło (1431).

An epic about Casimir III. was Józef Andrzej Załuski yet known, but today is lost.
