Adam James Drury (born August 29, 1978 in Cottenham ) is a former English football player .

Player career

Peterborough United (1995-2001)

Adam Drury began his playing career in the 1995/96 season with English third division club Peterborough United . After relegation from the Football League Second Division in 1997, he spent the following three seasons as a regular in the fourth-rate Football League Third Division . 1999/2000, the team returned to the third division after a success in the play-offs.

Norwich City (2001-2012)

On March 21, 2001, the 22-year-old Adam Drury moved to the second division Norwich City . In the course of the Football League First Division 2001/02 he came to thirty-five league appearances and reached the play-offs with Norwich. After a win over Wolverhampton Wanderers City reached the final, but lost this game on penalties against Birmingham City . The club of coach Nigel Worthington acted more successfully two years later by winning the second division championship. In the Premier League 2004/05 Drury played thirty-three league games (one hit), but rose with City as the penultimate again in the second division. In the following four years the performance deteriorated continuously and led in the Football League Championship 2008/09 to relegation to the third division (for the first time in 49 years). Adam Drury was injured in only twenty league games between 2007 and 2009. The excursion into the third division was limited to just one season after winning the championship in Football League One in 2009/10 and after the runner-up in the Football League Championship in 2010/11 , the team of coach Paul Lambert managed to march straight through to the premier League . Adam Drury suffered another injury in October 2010, but his contract was extended for a year two months later.
