Adam Kisiel ( Ukrainian Адам Кисіль Adam Kyssil , Polish Adam Kisiel , * 1580 or 1600 ; † May 3, 1653 in Brest ) was a Polish magnate and between 1650 and 1653 voivode of the Kiev Voivodeship .

Life

Kisiel stepped in 1629 as a representative of King Sigismund III. Wasa on the Church Council in Kiev , which was convened for the purpose of reconciling supporters of the Orthodox and the United Greek Catholic Church in Ukraine. During the uprising in Ukraine from 1637 to 1638, he negotiated as a member of the Polish government commission with the insurgents under Pawlo Pawljuk ( Павло Михнович Павлюк ). In 1639 he became castellan of Chernigov and in 1641 he became a senator of the Rzeczpospolita . During the Khmelnytskyi uprising , from 1649 he was one of the central figures in the negotiations with the Zaporozhian Cossacks under Bohdan Khmelnytskyi to end the uprising. His tolerant stance in trying to find a compromise between the two parties led to accusations on both sides against him. Between 1650 and 1653 he was voivode of the Kiev Voivodeship . He used his high offices to amass a large fortune with extensive latifundia in the voivodeships of Kiev, Volhynia and Chernigov and thus became one of the richest men in Ukraine . He died in 1653 in Brest, Belarus, and has been in the family church in Nyskynytschi ( Низкиничі , today in the Ukrainian Oblast Volyn , Rajon ivanychi buried).
