Adam Schneider

Adam Schneider (born July 10, 1860 in Worms , † October 28, 1931 in Freiburg i. B. ) was a German librarian.

Life

Schneider attended grammar school in Worms and from 1879 studied new languages ​​and literatures as well as history in Heidelberg , Gießen , Würzburg and Jena . In Freiburg he was awarded a Dr. phil. before taking the state examination for higher education in Strasbourg. He worked at several libraries before he became a volunteer in what was then the Imperial University and State Library of Strasbourg in 1890 . He made it up to the senior librarian here and headed various departments. In 1913 he was awarded the title of professor. In December 1918 he was expelled from Strasbourg, after which he worked in various organizations for the care of the displaced Alsace-Lorraine people. He retired in 1925.
