Adam von Lebenwaldt (born November 15, 1624 Sarleinsbach , Upper Austria ; † May 20, 1696 Leoben , Styria ; actually: Adam Johann Christoph Lebaldt von und zu Lebenwaldt) was an Austrian epigrammatist and teacher of medicine.

Life

Adam von Lebenwaldt attended the Latin school in Linz and studied philosophy in Graz and - since there was no medical faculty in Graz - medicine in Padua, where he received his doctorate in medicine in 1652. After he had settled in Styria, he became the personal physician of the Abbot of Admont and landscape medicine for the Enns and Paltental. Lebenwaldt was an epigrammatist and teacher of medicine in Salzburg, a doctor in Graz, Admont, Rottenmann, Trofaiach and Leoben. Because of his services as a plague doctor, he was ennobled in 1659 (Adam Johann Christoph Lebaldt von und zu Lebenwaldt). In 1679 he was crowned a poet by Emperor Leopold I (Poeta laureatus). He spoke out against quackery and superstition. From 1674 to 1684 he lived in Stibichhofen Castle in Trofaiach , which he owned. He spent the last years of his life in Leoben . On February 7, 1683 Adam von Lebenwaldt was admitted to the Leopoldina as a member ( matriculation no. 113 ) with the academic surname AESCULAPIUS II .
