history

Windegg residence

In 1825, Franz Josef Adam acquired the Windegg residence and converted it into a brewery. After Adam's death in 1830, the business changed hands frequently and in 1917 was taken over by a company of 38 innkeepers from Innsbruck. In 1994 the brewery was taken over by Brau AG and operations were discontinued while retaining the brand, whose production was first relocated to the Innsbrucker Bürgerbräu and from 2003 to the Brau Union locations in Kaltenhausen (Salzburg) and Wieselburg (Lower Austria).

After years of discussions about demolition or renovation, the aut has been using the premises on the old Adambräu site since January 14, 2005.

Brewhouse

The Adambräu brewhouse was built in 1926/1927 according to plans by the architect Lois Welzenbacher and is an important industrial monument. According to the technical production specifications, it is staggered vertically and contained the malthouse and kiln above, the brew kettle below and storage tanks and bottling at the bottom. After the brewery was closed in 1994, it was rebuilt from 2002 to 2004 together with the neighboring refrigerated ship and is now used by aut. Architektur und tirol and the archives for architecture at the University of Innsbruck.
