Adansonia sect. Brevitubae is a section of the plant genus of baobabs ( Adansonia ) in the family of mallow ( Malvaceae ).
description
The species belonging to the Brevitubae section are large deciduous trees with huge cylindrical or conical trunks and flat-capped crowns .
The egg-shaped flower buds are brown or green and two to three times longer than wide. The flowers sit on short, upright pedicels . The white, wrongly lanceolate petals are about five times longer than wide. The androeceum is white. The staminate tube is about 1 centimeter long, 1.5 centimeters in diameter and contains 600 to 1100, 3 to 7 centimeters long free stamens .
The flowers appear during the dry season from May to August.
The fruits are elongated, ovate to almost spherical with reddish-brown hairs and a thin pericarp . The kidney-shaped, non-flattened seeds are 12 to 20 millimeters in size. The germination occurs kryptokotylar , i.e. the cotyledons remain within the seed and take its reserves, the so-called endosperm .
