Addison Hehr
Maj Addison Flick Hehr (born October 27, 1909 in Cleveland , Ohio , † February 27, 1971 in Canoga Park , California ) was an American film architect .
Life
Little is known about Hehr's early years; as early as the 1930 census he was listed as resident in Los Angeles . In Hollywood, only interrupted by his service as a major in the US Marine Corps during World War II , he was active in subordinate positions in the following two decades before he was first employed as a film architect in the early 1950s.
From 1951 to 1958 Hehr was in the service of Twentieth Century Fox , and from the following year he designed film structures for MGM . Most recently, Hehr was no longer tied to a production company and also worked for television. In his roughly two decades as chief designer, Hehr created sets for films in a wide variety of genres - from science fiction films ( The Day the Earth Stood Still ) to war drama ( The Desert Rats , Baptism of Fire, The Young Lions ) to Westerns (Avenger of the Disinherited, The Devil Wife of Texas , Missouri ) . They were films in which top stars like Gary Cooper , Doris Day , Marlon Brando , Marilyn Monroe , Robert Mitchum , Rock Hudson and William Holden played the leading roles.
Addison Fehr received an Oscar nomination for his joint set creation (with George W. Davis and Henry Grace, among others ) for the two grand winners Cimarron and That Was the Wild West . Addison Hehr was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park (Hollywood Hills) cemetery.
