Building of the former Salpeterhütte Quedlinburg at Adelheidstraße 23

The Salpeterhütte Quedlinburg in the city of Quedlinburg in Saxony-Anhalt produced saltpeter for the production of black powder . The buildings that have been preserved at Adelheidstrasse 23 are under monument protection and are entered in the Quedlinburg monument register.

Architecture and history

The buildings, which were essentially built in the 17th and 18th centuries, were originally outside the city. Today, the complex is a bit staggered and is part of the villa development on Adelheidstrasse, which was built at the end of the 19th century, and is the oldest development in this area. While Adelheidstraße runs west along the Salpeterhütte today, it originally ran east of the house in the direction of the nearby Bode . This explains why the decoration on the facade of the half-timbered house faces the present-day courtyard side.

The rather simple two-story half-timbered house, built as a residential and administrative building, was built by Andreas Schröder in 1668 . The building inscription A.SCHRO with a hatchet refers to it .
