Adelrich Gyr also Gyr-Wickart (* July 8, 1843 in Einsiedeln , † February 16, 1928 in Zug , Catholic , legal resident in Einsiedeln) was a Swiss entrepreneur .

biography

Adelrich Gyr was born on July 8, 1843 in Einsiedeln as the son of the landlord , timber merchant and district councilor Martin Gyr and Magdalena nee Steinauer. Gyr first attended a Jesuit school in Alsace , followed by a language stay in France.

After that Adelrich Gyr worked as a grocer's dealer in Zug, then as a hardware dealer and manager of a spinning mill in Einsiedeln. He also participated in the construction of the Swiss Southeast Railway . In addition, he served as District Court President of Einsiedeln and from 1886 to 1890 as a representative of the Liberal Party in the Schwyz Cantonal Council .

After moving to Zug, Adelrich Gyr founded the rapidly growing electricity meter factory "Theiler & Co" in 1896 with the Einsiedeln technician Richard Theiler . In 1903 the company, which was dependent on outside capital, took on Heinrich Landis (* 1879, † 1922) as a third partner . Landis bought the shares in Theiler and Gyr in 1904 and later converted the company into Landis & Gyr together with Karl Heinrich Gyr .

Adelrich Gyr was married to Martha, the daughter of the Zug specialty merchant Paul Anton Wickart. He died on February 16, 1928 at the age of 85 in Zug.
