Adolf Blitz (born August 12, 1904 in Amsterdam , Netherlands ; † July 16, 1943 in the Sobibór extermination camp , Generalgouvernement ), born Adolf Blits , was a Dutch painter and illustrator .

Adolf Blits was born as the son of Saul Blits (born November 30, 1863 in Amsterdam) and his wife Cornelia (born March 6, 1867 in Utrecht ), née Sternheim. He had four brothers and one sister: Andries, Levie, Joseph, Aron and Rozet Blits. Adolf Blits married Rebekka (born February 24, 1905 in Borgerhout , Netherlands; † July 16, 1943 in the Sobibór extermination camp, Generalgouvernement), née Acohen. This marriage resulted in two children.

Act

In addition to his professional activity as an office clerk, Blitz worked as a painter. Among other things, he painted (dune) landscapes. His works were sold through the Roozemond art dealer.

For the publishers Boekenvrienden Solidariteit and Het Nederlandsch Boekengilde von Hein Kohn in Hilversum , he produced illustrations for various book publications from 1934.

Together with his wife Rebekka, Blitz was murdered by poison gas at the age of 38 during the Second World War as part of " Aktion Reinhardt " on July 16, 1943 in the Sobibór extermination camp.
