Adolf Dedekind

Karl Julius Adolf Dedekind (born September 22, 1829 in Braunschweig ; † June 25, 1909 there ) was a German judge and university professor. From 1892 to 1905 he was President of the Braunschweig Regional Court .

life and work

The son of the Privy Councilor Julius Dedekind and older brother of the mathematician Richard Dedekind attended the Martino-Katharineum in Braunschweig and studied law in Göttingen from 1848, where he co-founded the Brunsviga fraternity in 1848 . He passed the two state law exams in 1853 and 1859. He worked as a judge at the city and district courts in Braunschweig, Helmstedt and Wolfenbüttel . In 1869 he was appointed senior court secretary. His judicial activity was suspended from 1873 until he was appointed senior judge in 1875 and senior judge in 1879. From February 1, 1892 to October 31, 1905, he was President of the Regional Court in Braunschweig. From 1872 to 1909 he published the “Zeitschrift für Rechtspflege im Herzogtume Braunschweig”. As a supporter of the Welfenhaus , Dedekind appeared in journalism since the question of succession to the throne in 1885, which temporarily hindered his career. In 1902 there was disciplinary proceedings against him after he had issued a declaration against a letter from the State Ministry on the legal status of the regency.

In 1879 Dedekind took over the lectureship for law at the Braunschweiger Carolo-Wilhelmina as the successor to the Supreme Court Councilor Wilhelm Spies . He taught until November 1905. His successor was August Hampe , who came from Holzminden and later became President of the Senate .

He married Franziska Dorothea Sophie Karlowa (1841-1915) in Wolfenbüttel on May 6, 1865. The three sons were lawyers. Adolf (1867–1909) was a local judge, Hermann (1870–1953) was a lawyer and Alfred (1875–1947) was Ministerialrat in Braunschweig and from 1931 to 1933 District Director in Blankenburg .
