Adolf Fischer (born May 18, 1856 in Linz , Upper Austria ; † February 23, 1908 there ) was a secondary school teacher, painter and illustrator .

life and work

Adolf Fischer, the son of the academic engraver and xylograph Michael Fischer (* 1826, Aurolzmünster ; † 1887, Linz ), who was friends with Franz Stelzhamer and Adalbert Stifter , studied at the technical university in Vienna after attending the Linz secondary school . He studied the art of landscape and portrait painting with Rudolf Geyling, Valentin Teirich , Heinrich Vosberg and Joseph Walhammer. From 1879 Fischer worked as an illustrator for humorous magazines. Between 1884 and 1887 Fischer taught as a drawing teacher at Gmunden secondary schools, where he soon headed a drawing and painting school licensed by the state authorities.

In addition to numerous watercolor landscapes , hand drawings, certificates of honor and landscape illustrations, Fischer, who has participated in numerous exhibitions, also drew illustrations for Ferdinand Krackowizer's three-volume story of the city of Gmunden (1898–1900) and for the children's and house tales of the Brothers Grimm .

Museum reception

In April 1899, the Upper Austrian State Museum in Linz organized a special exhibition of Fischer's hand drawings and watercolors. Fischer was the father and artistic teacher of Adolph Johannes Fischer .

In 1978, the Kammerhof Museum Gmunden (now K-Hof Kammerhofmuseen Gmunden ) was given Adolf Fischer's partial estate consisting of 6 bundles (sketches and drawings, sketchbooks from Gmunden and Bad Ischl and a folder of letters to Fischer).
