Adolf Mišek
Adolf Mišek (born August 29, 1875 in Modletín , Bohemia , † October 20, 1955 in Prague ) was a Czech double bass player and composer .
Life
Mišek's father worked as a conductor and gave his son extensive musical knowledge at an early stage. Before he was 15, Adolf Mišek was admitted to the Imperial and Royal Academy of Music and Performing Arts (the forerunner of today's Vienna Conservatory ) in 1890 . There he entered the double bass class of Franz Simandl , who was considered one of the most renowned representatives of this instrument in Central Europe. The profound training with Simandl, which Mišek completed in 1894, immediately enabled the young musician to take on prestigious engagements, initially in the orchestra of the kk Hofoper , and since 1898 also with the Vienna Philharmonic . The musician left both orchestras when the independence of Czechoslovakia was proclaimed in 1918 after the end of the First World War . His colleagues took note of this decision with surprise, although Mišek's ties to his homeland were well known - during his time in Vienna the bassist was, among other things, head of the Czech Academic Orchestra and the Czech Choral Society .
Mišek moved to Prague, where he was a soloist in the National Theater Orchestra from 1920 to 1934 . The musician, who had already been hired to succeed his teacher Simandl at the Vienna Conservatory in Vienna from 1910 to 1914, spent the last two decades of his life, mainly as a music teacher and freelance composer.
