Adolf Pohl (sculptor)

Adolf Josef Pohl (born April 27, 1872 in Vienna , † July 25, 1930 in Bad Deutsch-Altenburg ) was an Austrian sculptor and craftsman .

Life

Pohl was initially a student at the Vienna School of Applied Arts , then he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts with Edmund von Hellmer and Caspar von Zumbusch . In his artistic career, Pohl mainly worked on modern everyday objects such as vases, candlesticks, bowls and mirrors in bronze, whereby he always produced these art objects in different materials. His works have been exhibited at the Vienna Künstlerhaus , Prague , Saint Petersburg , Moscow and Berlin . For his work he was awarded a bronze medal in Paris in 1900 .

During the First World War he was a one-year volunteer soldier in Feldjäger Battalion No. 21 of the Austro-Hungarian Army . On June 13, 1916, the academic sculptor applied for admission to the art group of the Austro-Hungarian war press quarter . He justified his admission, among other things, with his membership in the cooperative of visual artists of Vienna and referred to his famous teachers. However, his application for admission was not granted.
