biography

Adolf Würth was born on February 7, 1909 in Ilsfeld as the son of the farmer , winemaker and innkeeper Friedrich Würth. At the age of 13 he became an apprentice in 1922 in the copper cellar hardware store of the brothers Gotthilf , August and Hermann Reisser , a company with branches in Künzelsau, Öhringen and Schwäbisch Hall . Here he got to know direct sales , a business model that he later adopted for his own company.

On August 6, 1932, he married the widow Alma Kindermann (née Schott) in Öhringen . The eldest son, Reinhold Würth , who later continued the company, was born on April 20, 1935. In 1942, during the Second World War , Adolf Würth was appointed commercial manager of a factory in occupied Alsace . The second son, Klaus-Frieder Würth, was born on April 11, 1944.

Immediately after the end of the war, Würth went into business for himself and on July 16, 1945 founded the company Adolf Würth, Wood Screws, Künzelsau as a screw wholesaler, initially in an outbuilding of the castle mill in the Hofratsmühle district of Künzelsau . He received support from his wife Alma: "After the end of the Second World War, my mother was the driving force behind pushing the father to become self-employed" ( Reinhold Würth ). The company moved into its first own building in December 1952 on Bahnhofstrasse in Künzelsau.

Adolf Würth died on December 14, 1954 at the age of 45 from complications from a heart attack . After his death, his widow Alma Würth took over the company together with their 19-year-old son Reinhold. Under the leadership of Reinhold Würth, what would later become Adolf Würth GmbH & Co. KG developed from a two-man business to an international market leader.
