Adolf zur Lippe-Biesterfeld-Weißenfeld (born May 11, 1812 in See bei Niesky ; † January 23, 1888 in Pennsylvania ) was a German-American doctor, pioneer of homeopathy .

origin

Adolf Graf zur Lippe-Biesterfeld-Weißenfeld was born near Görlitz in 1812 . His parents were Ludwig Graf and Edler Herr zur Lippe-Biesterfeld-Weißenfeld (1781–1860) and his wife Eleonore Auguste, née. Countess von Hohenthal (1795–1856). The Prussian Minister of Justice, Count Leopold zur Lippe-Biesterfeld-Weißenfeld (1815–1889) was his younger brother.

Life

As a young adult he went to Berlin to study law. In 1830/31, however, Adolf moved into the Dresden Military Academy on his own initiative . In 1838 he emigrated to the USA . There he studied under Hering at the North American Academy of Homeopathic Healing Art in Allentown Pennsylvania . In 1841 he received his doctorate.

He founded a practice in Philadelphia , where he worked for 46 years. In 1867 there was a dispute with Hering because Lippe thought it unnecessary to set up a chair in pathology at the homeopathic college . Thereupon Constantin Hering (1800-1880) founded the "Hahnemann College of Philadelphia". In 1876 the two were reconciled.

Lippe was an excellent expert on Materia Medica and gave lectures on it at the "Allentown Academy". In total, he wrote more than 500 papers on his clinical cases. He had extraordinary therapeutic successes and knew how to present the essential symptom. He died in Pennsylvania in 1888.

On September 24, 1839 he married Theresia (Therese) Eichhorn (* May 12, 1815), who was three years his junior. Of his six children, three died in their first year of life.
