Adolph Ferdinand Hertz (born August 24, 1831 in Hamburg ; † April 24, 1902 there ) was a Hamburg merchant and senator.

Life

Hertz's father was the successful Hamburg shipowner Adolph Jacob Hertz , who was one of the first German merchants in East Africa . Hertz did a commercial apprenticeship at Albrecht & Dill in Hamburg before working for several years on behalf of his father's company in East Africa and the neighboring countries on the Indian Ocean . He returned to Hamburg in 1854 and became an authorized signatory in his father's company in Hamburg. In the following year he acquired Hamburg citizenship. From 1861 Hertz was involved in the Hamburg local government, he became a member of the Commerzdeputation and in 1866 acts as your President. He was also appointed to other deputations, such as the deputation for trade, shipping and industry. From 1863 to 1866 he was a member of the Hamburg parliament . From 1868 to 1869 he worked as a commercial judge and the following year at the higher court.

On September 20, 1872, Hertz was elected to the Hamburg Senate for Gustav Godeffroy , who had to resign . In the Senate, Hertz worked primarily in the field of taxes, after the departure of Franz Ferdinand Eiffe he took over the management of the building deputation for a year, he also worked in the fire fund deputation, which oversaw the Hamburg fire fund. In addition, he was parish lord of the St. Catherine's Church . Hertz held a few other offices. Hertz was married to Maria, née Gossler , (1844–1915) and had four children with her. One of them was the painter and sculptor Mary Hertz (1866-1934), who was married to Aby Warburg .
