Adolph Phillips

Adolph Phillips (born February 9, 1845 in Elbing ; † January 20, 1886 in Berlin ) was a German journalist and left-wing liberal politician .

Life

Phillips was the son of the Lord Mayor of Elbing, Adolph Phillips' the Elder, of the same name . He studied philology and graduated as Dr. phil. from. During his studies he became a member of the Teutonia Jena fraternity in 1863 . He then worked as a journalist in Berlin. From 1884 to 1886 Phillips was editor-in-chief of the Volks-Zeitung .

Politically left-wing liberal, he was one of the founders of the Free Association of the Progressive Party in Berlin in 1879 . As a representative of the left wing of the Progress Party, he was positive about cooperation with the Social Democrats. Between 1881 and 1884 he was a member of the Reichstag for the Progressive Party . In 1884 Phillips rejected the merger of the Progress Party with the Liberal Association to form the German Freisinnige Party . Together with Julius Lenzmann in particular , he then founded the Democratic Party . He was also co-editor of the Democratic papers .

The lawyer Georg Phillips (1804–1872) was his uncle.
