Adrian Gurvitz
Adrian Gurvitz (born June 26, 1949 in London , England ) is a British rock and jazz guitarist and singer.
Live and act
Gurvitz came into contact with music early on, as his father was a roadie with the Shadows and later a tour manager for both Cliff Richard and the Kinks . In 1968 he and his brother Paul (bass) formed a band called Gun , both of whom performed under the family name "Curtis". Their first single "Race with the Devil" became their only hit. However, the song would become an even bigger hit in a 1977 version by Black Oak Arkansas .
After two relatively unsuccessful albums, the group separated again. The two brothers then founded the short-lived formation "Three Man Army" before they recorded three albums in 1974 with drummer Ginger Baker as Baker Gurvitz Army . During that time the brothers also recorded two records with the Moody Blues drummer Graeme Edge as the "Graeme Edge Band".
Gurvitz then went to California and published a less successful solo album with musicians from Toto and Earth, Wind & Fire . Together with his brother Paul, he then recorded the album "Classic" in 1982. The title track of the same name became a top ten hit in the UK and reached a Silver Record . It became a one-hit wonder .
In 1989 he moved to Los Angeles and became a composer for a record company, where he wrote songs for Eddie Money and Kenny G , among others . From the 1990s onwards he turned to jazz .
